The Bb* Story

OUR STORY

We started The Beautiful Bunch in what felt like the darkest of times. In 2020, Melbourne was struggling through one of the longest lockdowns – lives and livelihoods had been lost, and our beautiful city was brought to its knees.

It was during this time that we took the remnants of an events social enterprise that was decimated by Covid, and, with no resources, but plenty of optimism, decided to launch a floral delivery service.

We had a simple aim: to create one seasonal bunch of flowers each day that would provide paid employment and training to young women from refugee backgrounds experiencing barriers to finding work.

What became The Beautiful Bunch was a concept that was formed in close partnership with the women it was intended to benefit. We started with a tiny team of four, three of whom were young women from refugee backgrounds. We had little experience, no money, and despite a big social goal, no grant funding.

Friends, family and locals bought the first couple of bunches. Word quickly spread, a lot of people told a lot more people and seven bunches a day would soon turn into seventy.

From the beginning, we have focused on building a charity that changes lives, that offers a warm, welcoming, supportive work and learning environment to young women who have not yet found one. We have also worked hard to build a viable business model, something that is focused on growing a large, loyal customer base that continues to choose us not only because of our social mission, but for our beautiful flowers too!

If you’re looking to gift in a meaningful way this Christmas, we’d love your support. Our Christmas range will be out soon, and all purchases – flowers, wreaths, candles, wine, hampers – go back into funding the training and employment opportunities that we provide.

With your support this Christmas and beyond, we will continue to grow, to be thankful for at least one good thing that came out of covid (us!!) and to work on our dream of providing many more opportunities for young women from refugee backgrounds, into 2023 and far beyond.
